CRANS is an association of students living in Cachan (France) near Paris on the campus of the ENS de Cachan.
CRANS stand for Cachan Reseau @ Normale Sup' and its aim is, on one hand to provide to the residents of the campus a connexion to our network and, through it, to Internet and in on the other hand to promote Free Software.
With more than 800 members each year, CRANS try to manage its network as best as possible. Each year, many new projects are proposed to the members. Recently, tv multicast and secured wifi connection were lead to life thanks to projects like VideoLan or OpenWrt. In a complement to that deployment of new technologies, CRANS organize each year, at least one [http://www.install-party.ens-cachan.fr install-party] in order to let people discover free software and let them switch their operating system.
CRANS does provide some services too the rest of the world, like an official mirror of [http://www.videolan.org VideoLan], with the collaboration of [http://via.ecp.fr VIA] another student association in France, or the project MuMuDvb.
In a complement to that, since three years. CRANS tries to fund some important projects whithout, we can't be what we are. So we already funded projects like, FSF, Debian, OpenWrt, and OpenBsd
